The Senate’s Weak Health Care Bill
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “got to 60” at 1:08 yesterday morning, clearing a key Republican hurdle and keeping the Senate’s version of a health care reform bill on track for passage before Christmas.

Twenty years without a clue
For the past twenty years officials at the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum have been working with FBI agents the U.S. Attorney’s office to bring back 13 stolen artifacts that were infamously stolen on March 18th, 1990.

Amateur Irish need not apply
Kelley Costello, a South Shore native who is third-generation Irish, knows a thing or two about how to celebrate St. Patrick’s day.  Costello has preformed with the Dropkick Murphys and worked for Ken Casey at his bar, McGreevy’s Third Base Saloon, since it opened in April of 2008. Here are some of her tips on how to avoid looking like an amateur on St. Patrick’s Day.

Evacuation Day safe as study is called for
Fiscal responsibility and history have clashed several times on St. Patrick’s/Evacuation Day. Yet even with pending local aid cuts and other budget woes, lawmakers didn’t strike down a bill yesterday to repeal the Suffolk County holiday that some believe costs the state millions of dollars a year.

Two tickets to ‘Paradise Lost’
“Paradise Lost” is a Depression-era drama rife with parallels to the current economic and political climate. In the wrong hands, a predictable production of Clifford Odets’ period piece could bore an entire audience into a coma.

‘I’ll be your mama’
Sandra Shipley says she wants a lot of people to come see her in “Entertaining Mr. Sloane,” but there’s one person she’s a little nervous about.

No Dance, but they’re playing
Tommy Amaker was surely something just south of exhausted yesterday afternoon, but the Harvard men’s basketball coach was still smiling.

Heavyweights back Flaherty

Menino team not impressed

Nick Martin, a spokesman for the Menino campaign said, “These two gentlemen (Flynn and King) have endorsed everyone from George W. Bush to Ralph Nader.” Menino has received endorsements from leaders in the faith community, MassEquality and the National Organization of Women, and several Democratic wards.

In 1983, Ray Flynn and Mel King faced off in an emotional mayoral race that drew the highest voter turnout in city history. Yesterday, the two men cast their support behind Michael Flaherty less than three weeks before he faces off with incumbent mayor Thomas Menino at the polls.

The endorsements of Flynn and King — who will serve as political advisers to Flaherty — drew parallels to current mayoral challengers-turned-allies in Flaherty and former candidate Sam Yoon. The bold move is the latest in a series of twists and turns that have created a whirlwind of a campaign, including Flaherty’s alliance with Yoon and an e-mail controversy that put the Menino administration on the defensive.

“I think this is the team that can move Boston forward,” Flynn said yesterday, adding Flaherty and Yoon joining hands after the preliminary was “what this city really needs.”

While Flaherty has touted himself as the candidate for Boston’s future, the endorsements tap into the city’s past and are “unprecedented,” in the words of longtime City Hall observer Lawrence DiCara.

Flynn once helped Menino ascend to the mayor’s post after nominated as ambassador to the Vatican, but the pair haven’t always seen eye to eye since.
