Hasselbeck on being a mom

Host of “The View,” designer, author and mom Elisabeth Hasselbeck is in her first week back at work following the birth of her third child.

Are you a better mom because you work?

It is a firm belief of mine that women should not define what kind of mom they are based on working or staying home, as it divides us, creates hierarchy, resentment and guilt.

Do you feel guilty when you walk out the door? (Or do you feel guilty for having no guilt?)

When the baby comes out, guilt inserts itself into your life. My challenge is figuring out exactly who I am letting down. My guess: It’s me. After all — moms are their own worst critics.

My mom story

Baber

Baber

Dr. Beth Baber is a hero in her younger sister Julie’s eyes. “I’m in awe of her dedication and strength,” says Julie. Beth, a pediatric cancer researcher with three children, was faced with a battle of her own when her young son was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a common cancer in infancy.

While working full-time and raising a family, Beth immediately enrolled herself in graduate school to learn how to start up an institute to help change her son’s life. Her goal was reached this summer, when she opened “The Nicholas Conor Institute,” the only research organization that focuses solely on pediatric oncology. “She’s changing the world,” says Julie.
