3 children, parents saved in Bronx fire

It was a heroically dramatic rescue: After firefighters broke down the door of a second-floor Bronx home early yesterday and swiftly pulled three children to safety with only minor injuries, they saved the lives of their parents — both unconscious when they were discovered through a wall of smoke, according to FDNY officials.

Firefighters from Ladder 59 found the couple, identified by the New York Daily News as Rosie and Fauto Florentino, and gave them CPR for nearly 15 minutes after they dragged them outside. They were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, along with their children, who were treated for smoke inhalation. The woman was listed in stable condition. The man was in critical.

The blaze started shortly before 4 a.m, reportedly in the Florentino’s kitchen, and was under control within an hour. Worried neighbors at the six-story building at 45 Tremont Ave. looked on as the firefighters saved the Morris Heights family.
