Melissa Rivers is an actress, host and author of the new book “Red Carpet Ready: Secrets for Making the Most of Any Moment You’re in the Spotlight.” She’s also a mother — she has a 9-year-old son, Cooper.
What does “tech time” look like in your house?
He’s allowed to do it, but only when he’s finished doing everything else. He has to do a lot for school online. They have to look things up but it’s never ever a substitution for running and playing and painting and doing all those things.
What is your son’s relationship like with technology?
He can work the remote better than I can. He can do more with my iPhone than I can and he can fix things I can’t. It’s so natural, but I do think you have to set limits — life is not to be spent on the Internet or staring at a computer screen.
So what are your limits?
If it’s beautiful and sunny out, he’s outside. He wants to surf, run around, be at the beach, play football and then if he wants to play Wii for a little bit that’s cool, too.
