Put your vacation on ice
One of the world’s most intricate, arduous and artistic undertakings is also a creative work of functionality and impermanence. Open from Jan. 4 through April 4, the Hotel de Glace is both an exhibition and accommodation that can only be seen and experienced for three months before it starts to melt and is taken down.
My Career
Time for some risky business
To most professionals, the worst job crisis since the days of silent films and soup lines might seem like an inopportune time for a risky career swap — at least that’s what some career experts have observed. This workforce, they say, seems particularly reluctant to give up reliable day gigs, no matter how unrewarding or dull.
Music
Run this town
No living man but Jay-Z could get a sold out Boston arena so excited about New York City. But for two hours last night, the sold out crowd at the Garden was in an Empire State of Mind, as “The Blueprint 3” tour rolled into town.
My Travel
Not your average island getaway
We promise not to get that annoying Beach Boys song stuck in your head — impossible now that we’ve brought it up. Aruba, heading up that list of tropical islands sung about in “Kokomo,” is often incorrectly lumped with the Caribbean, when in fact, it couldn’t be more unique from the rest.
Like the others, Aruba has the gorgeous beaches and stunning coral reefs. What it doesn’t have are hurricane seasons. Tourists never have to worry about planning a vacation to the island that lands in the middle of hurricanes Brad, Manny or Zach. Instead you’ll be met with cacti and warm, dry breezes.

So much more than tacos & tequila
Get lost in a super mercado
You must treat yourself to a boat ride on the canals of Xochimilco (like Venice, but much more authentic, colorful, and less touristy). A visit to one of the open- air markets is key, as well. Just be careful getting around. Although great strides have been made to tackle violence, Mexico City is still a place where foreigners should use caution. Only use official taxis, or have your hotel hail them for you.
My Travel
Stay ripped on the road
Traveling can wreck the best-laid health plans. “But that shouldn’t be any excuse,” says Brett Hoebel, an international fitness expert and creator of the newly-launched RevAbs DVD (www.revabs.com). He shared with us a circuit you can do in your own hotel room. “These will work on strength, conditioning and cardio, without having to lug any equipment,” he tells us.

Making it happen in the Magic City
There’s always a good reason to go to Miami — entertainment options in the Magic City are as abundant as palm trees and ocean breezes. Here’s where to find the party — and the sandy spots to recover the morning after.
