Across the pond in West Wales, a 90-year-old tortoise is able to get around after being fitted with a pair of wheels to replace its front legs.
The tortoise, Mrs. T was severely injured when a rat chewed her front legs off while she was hibernating in a garden shed earlier this month.
Jude Ryder, the owner of the tortoise allowed her son Dale Sinclair-Jones, an engineer, fitted the crippled tortoise with two wheels from a model airplane. He first glued a special axis to the shell and added a wheel to each side. “She can get a good speed up, much faster than before,” says Ryder in a report to BBC News.
