1-year-old boy dies in apartment complex fire in Brooklyn

A 1-year-old boy was found dead in a fire Wednesday morning on the top floor of an apartment in Brooklyn.

The boy, Ivan Baez, was found unconscious at about 8:30 a.m. after firefighters responded to the fire on the top floor of a building in the Howard Houses public housing complex in Brownsville.

The baby was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Six others that were in the apartment on Mother Gaston Boulevard, including a 32-year-old and 22-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman,17-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were taken to local hospitals and treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.

More than 125 firefighters responded to the fire. The cause of the fire is unclear and the investigation is ongoing.
