A Brooklyn man who was shot in the 1980s just recently died as a result of his injuries and now the gunman could face murder charges, authorities said Friday.
Billy Yee, 59, passed away on Oct. 2. When Yee was 25, on June 14, 1982, he was shot at the corner of Sands Street near the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in downtown Brooklyn at about 2 a.m., according to police. RELATED:Man killed in shooting outside Boerum Hill gas station Yee was hit four times in the back while he sat behind the wheel of a car, the Daily News reported — the apparent result of a botched drug deal. He survived, but after his death this fall, the medical examiner determined that complications from the shooting were to blame and reclassified the shooting as a homicide on Wednesday. Stanley Cho, then 25, was charged in July 1982with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office will decide whether he will be charged with murder in Yee’s death.
