A man and a woman were killed on Saturday when the motorcycle they were riding collided with an SUV in Astoria, Queens.

The SUV was reportedly making a U-turn at the intersection of 20th Ave. and 24th St when the motorcycle crashed into it. Michael Fernandez, 32, the driver of the motorcycle, and his passenger, 36-year-old Jennifer Manthorne, were pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The driver of the SUV, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Friends and family told NY1 that Manthorne and Fernandez were old friends.

“It’s terrible, I mean they’re two young kids,” their neighbor John Morales said.
