A pedestrian and a cyclist were struck and killed by vehicles in two separate incidents in Brooklyn, NYPD said Tuesday.

The first collision occurred in Coney Island around 4:45 p.m. Monday on Avenue X near Coney Island Avenue. A bicyclist was attemptingto pass a delivery truck on the right in an area that did not have a designated bike lane, police said.

The truck moved to the right at the same time, and the bicyclist, who was identified as 69-year-old Iosif Plazinskiy, was hit by the truck and lost his balance. He fell onto the road and was struck by the truck’s rear tires.

Plazinskiy suffered trauma to the torso and head and was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The truck’s 50-year-old driver remained at the scene and wasn’t charged, police said.

Less than an hour later, a pedestrian was struck by a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder in the vicinity of Avenue A and Linden Boulevard in Brownsville.

The Nissan was traveling eastbound from Remsen Avenue on Avenue A when its driver hit two vehicles that were double-parked. He continued toward Linden Boulevard and struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street mid-block, police said.

After striking the pedestrian, who was identified as Marlon Palacious, 43, the Pathfinder hit two more parked vehicles and a 2012 Audi that was stopped at the corner of Avenue A and Linden Boulevard. The Audi was driven by a 41-year-old woman. She and the 40-year-old driver of the Pathfinder stayed at scene. No one have been charged and it was unclear what caused the driver of Pathfinder to strike the vehicles.

Palacious was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the most recent data from New York City, there were 17 cyclist fatalities from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30, 2016, and more than 4,300 injuries. There were 128 pedestrian fatalities and nearly 9,700 injuries in that same period.
