Two NYPD officers remain in stable condition after their patrol car was struck by a vehicle fleeing a crime scene in Brooklyn, police said Thursday morning.
Two plain-clothed officers patrolling on foot heard four shots fired in the vicinity of Saratoga and Howard Avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 10:30 p.m.
Soon after, a dark-colored Nissan with North Carolina license plates sped down MacDonough Street. One of the officers, a sergeant, tried to stop the vehicle by motioning with his hands, but the Nissan drove on.
It then struck an NYPD vehicle on routine patrol on Ralph Avenue. The NYPD cruiser had a steady green light, police told NBC4.
The two officers inside were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. The officers’ identities have not been released, nor is the extent of their injuries known, but they are still in stable condition as of 10 a.m. Thursday, police told Metro.
Two unidentified men, ages 29 and 19, were in the Nissan when it crashed and were also taken to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition. They have not been charged as of yet, police said Thursday.
A .40-caliber handgun was found at the scene of the crash, and it matched shell casings that were found where the shots were fired before the crash.
