2 people stabbed on Boston Common Wednesday evening

Park Street Station Boston Common

Two people were stabbed on Boston Common Wednesday afternoon in a fight that began with an alleged skateboard attack.

Police responded to a call about a stabbing in the area of Park and Tremont streets around 5:20 p.m.  Wednesday.

Two people were found with stab wounds, one with life threatening injuries, police said. One victim had a wound in his back and the other was stabbed in his stomach.

Officers took three individuals into custody on Wednesday after they witnessed suspects trying to flee the area by running into Park Street Station. They were released after questioning, police said, and determined not to have committed the crimes.

One of the stabbing victims, 30-year-old George Moustakis, of Danvers, reportedly started the fight that led to the stabbings, the Boston Globe reports, when he allegedly hit another man with a skateboard.

Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans told reporters at the scene on Wednesday that two “groups” of people were fighting when the stabbings occurred.

“Unfortunately, nobody fights with their hands anymore,” he told reporters. He added that the stabbings were “unusual” for Boston Common.

Moustakis has been charged with assault and battery, police said, and is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
