2017 NBA Mock Draft: Celtics pick Lonzo Ball, trade Isaiah Thomas

For months we’ve had the Celtics taking Josh Jackson at No. 1 because the C’s are already overloaded at the point guard position and they could use another All-Star caliber swingman. But there are some whispers that Boston could shock and awe this offseason by trading away their best current player – point guard Isaiah Thomas. That would open the door for the C’s to take one of the two point guards in this draft deemed otherworldly: UCLA’s Lonzo Ball or Washington’s Markelle Fultz.

Danny Ainge is a Belichick-ian talent evaluator – meaning that he has the potential to be ruthless. If Ainge does not think Thomas will be worth the money the PG wants, he will absolutely trade him. Can’t imagine Ainge was too thrilled with Thomas’ “Brinks Truck” reference and that Thomas is constantly teasing Celtics trades that never come to fruition. Totally different scenario, but the last Celtics player who brought up contract stuff in public during the season was Evan Turner – and he’s in Portland now.
