$20K in antique books stolen from Upper East Side: Police

Police are looking for a man who they say shoplifted two antique books from an Upper East Side shop earlier this year.

The books, valued at around$20,000, were taken from a display shelf at PRPH Books — a rare books and art gallery at 26 E. 64th St., police said.

The suspect walked into the gallery at about 3 p.m. on April 16 and swiped the books from the display before placing them inside a “soft briefcase” he was carrying, police said. He then exited the shop.

Police describe the man as bald and last seen wearing a gray dress shirt, red pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
