The boyfriend of a woman found fatally shot in her Bronx apartment in 1993 has been charged with the killing, police said.

Michael Stewart, 56, had been in hiding for more than 20 years when he was arrested this week in Hartford, Conn., for killing 22-year-old Sofia Blair.

Stewart, who was 33 at the time, allegedly shot Blair in the head in their Fordham apartment after she refused to go on the run with him to avoid several drug charges he was facing, authorities said.

He fled the apartment after the killing, according to police, leaving Blair’s body with their infant son, who was later found safe in his crib.

Stewart reportedly fled the U.S. for Jamaica. The cold case was reopened in March 2014 when law enforcement discovered that Stewart had returned.

He was eventually located in Connecticut under a fake name. Under that assumed name, Stewart faced separate drug and identity theft charges, authorities said.
