25 photos of the Obamas on their 25th wedding anniversary

Barack and Michelle Obama (née Robinson) tied the knot on Oct. 3, 1992 and a lot has happened in the quarter century since the Obamas got hitched.

Another year older, but the same phenomenal guy I married nearly 25 years ago. Happy birthday, @BarackObama — we love you so much!

How did Barack and Michelle Obama meet?

The couple met in 1989 when Barack Obama was a summer associate at Chicago’s Sidley & Austin law firm, where Michelle Robinson worked. They married three years later.

In a video released by Barack and Michelle Obama in 2012, the duo dished on their first date. They started at the Art Institute of Chicago where they had lunch before strolling Chicago’s Michigan Avenue.

The date continued at the movie theater where they saw the recently released Spike Lee joint Do the Right Thing, a film about racial tensions in 1980s New York City.

“It was a cool date, we spent the whole day together, he was showing me all facets of his character,” Michelle Obama recalled. “We went to the Art Institute.”

“Art. Guys out there, it impresses people,” Barack Obama interjected with a smile.

“He showed his cultural side and then we took a nice long walk down Michigan Avenue,” the first lady continued.

“Kind of romantic,” POTUS humble bragged.

“He showed all the sides —he was hip, cutting edge, cultural, sensitive,” FLOTUS No. 44 remembered. “The fountain —nice touch. The walk —patient.”

“Take tips, gentlemen,” No. 44 added.

How Barack and Michelle Obama make it work with date nights.

Michelle Obama told cable network TVOne in 2009 that married couples need to set aside time for each other and that date nights are an important part of her marriage.

She said: “We learned how to sustain our relationship at a distance which is why carving out that time making sure that we have Friday or Saturday date nights making sure that it is not a just a movie. Because you can’t talk at a movie, you can’t ask questions and look him in the eye so we usually go out to dinner.”

Former FLOTUS said that keeping romance alive is also good for the kids.

“My eldest daughter says ‘It makes me feel good to see you and dad hold hands’. We forget about that,” Michelle Obama said. “We think they don’t care about that but they like the fact that they know we love each other, that gives them security.”

Reach your own #relationshipgoals with dating advice from Michelle Obama.

“The advice I would give to women: don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart, look at the soul,” Michelle Obama advised during a 2009 interview on CBS. “Look at how the guy treats his mother and what he says about women and how he acts with children that he doesn’t know and more importantly, how does he treat you?

“When you’re dating a man you should always feel good you should never be in a relationship with a man who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole.

“Find that person that brings you complete and utter joy.”

Word, FLOTUS.

Happy Valentine’s Day to the love of my life and favorite island mate, @barackobama. #valentines ??
