5 killed in Middleborough wrong-way crash identified

State police have identified all five victims of the wrong-way crash on Route 495 in Middleborough Monday.

A car driven by 31-year-old Fall River woman Valantein V. Burson was heading south on the northbound side of the highway when it crashed head-on into another car traveling in the right direction, killing all passengers involved, state police said.

The second car, operated by Kraig A. Diggs, 20, of Paxton and Osterville, a student at Anna Maria College in Paxton, exploded on impact, according to a Wicked Local report.

Diggs’ passengers included his two cousins Jordan J. Galvin-Jutras, 19, of Hyannis and a student at Anna Maria College and Jordan J. Fisher, 19, of Harwich, a student at Becker College in Worcester. Friend Cory P. Licata, 18, of West Babylon, New York, also a student at Becker College, also perished in the crash.

The young men were returning to their colleges in central Massachusetts after visiting family over the weekend on Cape Cod.

Police continue to investigate the cause and circumstances of the crash, but do not expect any new developments to be released today, according to a statement.
