7 shot in 17 bloody hours in the Hub

A bloody 17 hours in Boston left seven people shot, including a woman who was killed inside a Roxbury convenience store Saturday afternoon.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead after the 3 p.m. shooting at the Quick Stop store on Warren Street where police still searched for evidence yesterday. A man who community members said worked at the store was also shot in the incident, which hit too close to home for some neighbors.

“The guy who owned the store, he came inside and he was bleeding,” said Khurshed Iqbal, the manager of Crown Fried Chicken & Pizza, which is adjacent to the convenience store. “When the customers saw him they ran outside. He thought the suspects were following him so he held the door shut and asked one time for help.”

Although they were still investigating, police said it did not appear the separate shootings were connected.

The shooting at the convenience store occurred across the street from a police substation where the SWAT team is based.
