A 10-year-old girl dies after collapsing on soccer field at summer camp

A 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the New York Hospital Queens after passing out on a soccer field during summer camp on Monday, police said.

At around 3:14 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding Laura Palma who collapsed and was unconscious on the the soccer field at Queens College. Officers arrived shortly after to find the girl being treated by EMS who then brought her to the hospital.

The cause of death is unknown and will be determined by the New York City Medical Examiner.

Queens College told NBC New York that grief counseling services are being made available to camp students and staff.
