Nine local professional fighters joined forces yesterday in support of the 2010 Fightscene Fan Expo, saying they are excited to meet their fans on a more personal level.
“I’ve had a lot of local support and for me this is an opportunity to give back and put on a showcase for the fans,” said Jelena Mrdjenovich, a three-time WBC?title holder.
Not only do fighting enthusiasts get to meet their idols, they also have the chance to learn from and explore the various combat sports and related businesses available to Edmontonians.
“We’re looking at doing this every year because I want to make it easier for the next round of fighters to come up,” said Dean Danas, an organizer of the event.
“With more people seeing them it’s easier for the promoters to put on a show, and the more people there are the better it is for everybody.”
Other big names who will be in attendance at the expo include Ryan Ford, Nick Penner, Sheldon Hinton and Mukai Maromo.
Tickets are on sale now and are $10.
The event will take place Aug. 15 at the Shaw Conference Centre.
