Abuse charges against area dog owner dropped

Animal abuse charges against a Calgary-area dog owner will be dropped after a court appearance in Strathmore yesterday.

Tom Bilski’s neighbour accused him of dragging his two dogs behind a quad earlier this year. Bilski said he was protecting the dogs from coyotes.

Bilski is set to have the charges officially dropped on Sept. 8, according to his wife, Monica.

“We received a letter saying the charges would be dropped (yesterday), but the crown prosecutor is on vacation and no one knew about it,” she said.

Bilski said while she is relieved the charges have been dropped, she is frustrated with the time and money spent dealing with the issue.

“I’m appalled that a person can make a complaint and charges can be laid but the evidence isn’t really looked at for five months,” she said.

The dogs have now been returned to the couple.
