Accordions of the world converge on Bryant Park

No one else has hosted as diverse a range of events this summer as Bryant Park, but this might be the most eclectic.

Friday’s Accordion Bands Festival showcases the whole world of accordion-forward music (yes, it’s more than the soundtrack to somber French films). Young and established acts will share the stage from 4:30-10 p.m., so pull up a picnic (perhaps from the newishBreads Bakery kiosk?)and listen to theBalkan funk of Slavic Soul Party to the Niall O’Leary Irish Band’s traditional folk, Argentine tango from Los Chantas and many more.

It’s as wacky as it is wildly ambitious, and you have to applaud that. The event, like all of Bryant Park’s summer programming, is free.
