We can only wear our adult facades for so long before needing a little regression therapy. There’slaser tag brunch at the Highline Ballroom, video games (with booze!) until 4 a.m. at Barcade, and mini golf on Governors Island, but here are five new ways to indulge your inner child.
Aug. 21-Sept. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
455 Broadway, Fifth floor
Anyone who’s told you playing is a waste of time is not only joyless but wrong. Unleash your creativity by reliving the simple joy of jumping into a pit of 81,000 plastic balls without creeping out the parents at this adults-only pop-up from London’s Pearlfisher. Sessions run 30 minutes, and entry is a $5 requested donation.
26 Clinton St., Lower East Side
There’s a new cat cafe to fill your heart with joy — and it also serves booze. Beginning in September, snuggle up with a feline in Koneko’s outdoor garden while snacking on Japanese bar bites and baked goods. Hour-long soul-nourishing sessions cost $15, or if you have a crisis that only petting a cat while drinking wine will fix, walk-ins pay $10 for 30 minutes.
Kith NYC Cereal Bar
233 Flatbush Ave. (opens Aug. 27)
Kith NYC is already too cool for school, but their cool factor just escalated with their new Brooklyn location. Alongside the swag, they’ll have what is somehow the city’s first cereal bar, with 24 varieties of the childhood breakfast staple, 30 toppings(?!) and 10 kinds of milk. We hope the reward for loyal customers will be the prizes at the bottom of the box.
Open Aug. 20-December, The Battery
No more wishing to grow fins and swim away to the Mermaid Kingdom under the sea, because it’s washed ashore at State and Pearl streets. The carousel was designed by the same team that produced the near-magical Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony — it’s shaped like a nautilus shell with 30 13-foot-tall glowing fish that you can ride into your own seafaring fantasies for just $5.
