An undocumented immigrant from Guatemala will now be allowed to remain in the U.S. for 90 days after being threatened with deportation.

Amanda Morales-Guerra, 33, moved to the U.S. 13 years ago and has three children who have citizenship, but was recently informed she could be forced to leave the country. In response, locals and elected officials gathered at Holyrood Church in Washington Heights to rally against her deportation and provide support for the mother who remains concerned about the future.

Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez announced in a tweet this week that Morales-Guerra would be able to stay in the country during a 90-day period.

“I feel very happy because I know this is the beginning but it’s not the end,” she told NBC4. Morales-Guerra has received death threats in her native country and decided to leave in order to flee violence.

She’s now receiving support from her community, which is providing her with food, beds and childcare while she waits to find out more about her case.
