After loss, Celtics start new streak

The Celtics lost their 11-game winning streak on Friday, when they dropped a 98-97 game to the scrappy 76ers.

It didn’t take them long to start a new run.

The C’s hammered the Timberwolves 122-104 last night, with big performances from Paul Pierce (29 points, seven rebounds, four assists), Rajon Rondo (13 points, 15 assists) and Ray Allen?(20 points).

The game was played with just two referees, rather than the usual three, because the third member of the officiating crew could not fly to Boston due to yesterday’s weather conditions.

Unlike Friday, Boston?(21-5) put an overmatched foe away early last night. The C’s took a 34-19 lead in the first quarter and built a 25-point halftime advantage. The third quarter was closer, but a T’wolves team led by former Celtics forward Al Jefferson couldn’t come close to closing the gap.

The win gave Boston a double-digit margin over its closest Atlantic Division contender, Toronto. The C’s are in the thick of it for No. 1 in the East.
