The U.S. Air Force has backtracked on plans to regard as a spy any of its members who read leaked U.S. diplomatic documents on WikiLeaks.
The edict sparked a growing row, but the USAF has now said on its website that the ban had not been sanctioned by top officers and was therefore being removed.
The federal government has ordered thousands of employees not to read the documents, as they remain classified — even though they have been published by newspapers and websites around the world.
