Alberta curler gunning for gold at the Games

Behind every successful athlete there’s a group of supporters cheering them on to victory.

The Canadian men’s curling team is no different. About 70 supporters made their way from the City of Champions to take in the Winter Games, and more specifically, cheer Kevin Martin’s curling team on to Olympic gold.

“It’s been amazing,” said Shauna Martin, Kevin’s wife. “As much as I thought it was going to be great that this one was going to be in Canada, it’s always exciting to go to another country.

But when I got here, to see the Canadian crowd in the building, it was unbelievable.”

Martin said she’s been able to find time to take in many of the sights and sounds surrounding the Olympics. “I went up to Whistler and the whole crowd up there is just amazing,” she said.

Martin said from a curling point of view, the crowd, facility and experience has been second to none. That’s exactly what she’s hoping for as far as results are concerned: “Of course we’re looking for gold,” she said.

The men’s and women’s curling semifinals go tomorrow. The medal rounds take place Friday and Saturday.
