Alberta gallery teams up with national exhibitor

Although the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel will not be coming to Edmonton anytime soon, Albertans can expect to see some notable Canadian and international art in the new year.

The Art Gallery of Alberta announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with the National Gallery of Canada yesterday, promising to expose Edmonton to works drawn from the NGC’s collections.

“This groundbreaking partnership will allow the AGA to bring unique exhibitions of art from around the world that have been collected with the vision of our nation’s capital art museum to Alberta,” said Catherine Crowston, AGA deputy director and chief curator.

The first featured exhibition is already set for the opening of the gallery on Jan. 31 with Francisco Goya: The Disasters of War and Los Caprichos.

The AGA will open its doors by offering free admission for the first two days, with tickets available on the AGA website.
