Alberta Grits still lacking funding

Alberta’s Liberals are still dealing with financial difficulties after it let go two of its staff this week.

Liberal House Leader Laurie Blakeman says two administration workers were let go this week and both will be replaced with “eager volunteers.”

“We’ve had to make the tough choices in time like this,” said Blakeman, who confirmed the party is looking to close down its head office at 10247 — 124 St.

“You don’t get a very high percentage of the population who donates to political parties and in this province, it’s been hard to convince people that they won’t somehow be harmed by supporting an alternative to government.”

Blakeman said the party racked up a $64,000 debt after the last election, and it has amassed a debt around $400,000 since 2001.
