Alderman lambasted over casual comment

A joke with friends, or unacceptable public comment?

Ald. Brian Pincott, in the midst of dealing with a failed ring road proposal and community outrage at a methadone clinic moving in, updated his Facebook profile. It read, “Pincott thinks we might need methadone to get over the ring road.”

“It is unacceptable. It’s inappropriate,” says Jill Hefferton, who is campaigning against the second chance recovery clinic that has just moved into the community of Braeside.

The Facebook page was available for anyone to see, that was until the complaints started rolling in to city hall.

“It was a comment intended for my friends, friends who would understand the context of dealing with two large issues, both issues that demand my full attention and they are happening at the same time,” Pincott said.

He didn’t say if he would remove the comment or say that he wouldn’t make that type of comment again.

“It is a message board for my friends and the fact that I have adjusted my privacy setting certainly highlights that.”
