The Defenders Defending

“The Sinner,” USA (Aug. 2)
In “The Sinner,” Jessica Biel plays the role of a young mother named Cora, who commits a heinous murder but can’t remember what her motivation was. Sure! The actress — who lest you forget is most famous for a starring role in the wholesome “7th Heaven” — says she was attracted to the role because Cora is “complex and complicated.” Here’s hoping Biel can carry a show on her own.

“Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later,” Netflix (Aug. 4)
The Camp Firewood gang is slated to reunite again and we’re finger bangin’ ready. Last we saw the campers, it was their “First Day of Camp,” an eight-episode prequel to the 2001 film, which took place on the last day of camp. Now, we’re getting them ten years older, and none the wiser. Expect the usual, and by that we mean hilarious takes from the likes of Amy Poehler, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni and many more.

“Difficult People,” Hulu (Aug. 8)
For those of you who love to see unlikeable people behaving badly, take comfort in knowing aspiring comics Julie (Julie Klausner) and Billy (Billy Eichner) are at it again. Auditions go awry! Clown outfits are worn! Billy is… making out with John Cho? It’ll be a season to remember, that’s for sure.

“The Defenders,” Netflix (Aug. 18)
“The Defenders” will bring together your favorite Netflix heroes — Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox). Oh, and Danny Rand aka Iron Fist (Finn Jones) will be there too. And this ragtag bunch may be heroes — but they are increasingly human, too. It’ll be interesting to see how they work together, or fail to.
