Alleged cyber pimp busted

An alleged Vancouver “cyber pimp” who used the popular Internet classified site Craigslist to lure women into prostitution is facing charges, Vancouver police said yesterday.

VPD vice Sgt. Tony Cavezza alleged the 31-year-old West End man, who was arrested in mid-June, was recruiting sex workers through advertisements for escorts and exotic dancers in the “adult gigs” section on Craigslist.

The ads directed women to a second website, which led to a meeting. He then allegedly used his influence and got the women to perform sex acts for money, which he pocketed.

Mark Carlisle Humphrey is facing two counts of procuring a person to become a prostitute, living on the avails of prostitution and compelling a person to engage in prostitution.

He’s next due in court on July 30.
