Alta. firefighters to battle B.C. blazes

Firefighters from all over the province have been deployed to British Columbia to help battle wildfires.

More than 100 Alberta-based firefighters are already in B.C. with another 85 being deployed over the next few days, according to wildfire information officer Geoffrey Driscoll.

Last year, the province sent firefighters and equipment to B.C., the Yukon and Banff National Park and brought in firefighters and equipment from New Brunswick, the Yukon, Quebec, Northwest Territories, Ontario and even Mexico.

Driscoll said sharing resources is the usual practice when battling wildfires.

“This is a standard way of doing business that we have in Canada,” Driscoll said.

“It’s a good way to make sure that if anybody needs help, help will always be given.”
