Brooklyn’s Ample Hills Creamery is spreading the Salted Crack Caramel gospel with a second permanent outpost opening today.

The Prospect Heights-born ice cream shop’s second location is a two-story outpost in Gowanus. With enough space to quadruple production, 24 constantly changing ice cream and sorbet flavors will be offered daily. Watch the magic happen inside a kitchen that can be seen from within the shop and by pedestrians on Union Street.

“It’s been a longtime dream of ours to create a kind of ‘ice cream paradise,’ a multi-purpose building all about ice cream — and this space and the Gowanus community have allowed us to realize that idea,” saysco-owner Brian Smith.

In a nod to the neighborhood (and inspired by Smith’s former career as asci-fi writer), a flavor unique to the new store will kick things off: “It Came From Gowanus” hides mystery mix-ins luring in an ultra-dark chocolate ice cream.

Take your treats upstairs to the rooftop deck. There’s also a 30-seat event space that will host ice cream-making classes as well as private events.

In addition to its full-time Prospect Heights (623 Vanderbilt Ave.) and Gowanus stores, Ample Hills Creamery operates a seasonal kiosk at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park as well as carts at Pier 1 and Jane’s Carousel.
