Anchor beefs up her cooking

Carolyn MacKenzie

Carolyn MacKenzie is the anchor of Global News Ontario’s News Final.

Q: What is your fondest memory from your family kitchen?

A: I have always loved having the first dinner at the cottage after everyone has arrived.

Q: What kitchen aromas bring back fond memories?

A: I love the smell of breakfast foods, particularly bacon. The smell of sizzling bacon reminds me of my mom in her kitchen cooking what she calls “brekkie.”

Q: What is your favourite food to cook?

A: Beef. Whether it’s steak, beef tenderloin, prime rib or stewing beef … nothing says comfort food like red meat.

Q: What kitchen gadget can you not live without?

A: Top of the line knives. Trying to cook with anything else makes the process far more frustrating than it needs to be.

Q: What rituals from your background involving food do you partake in?

A: Every Christmas, my grandmother loves to serve blood pudding. No one other than my grandmother likes it but the table just wouldn’t look right if that blood pudding was suddenly absent.
