Ansel Elgort keeps the over-share train going

If I were Ansel Elgort’s high school girlfriend — which is not a sentence I ever imagined writing — I might want to sit him down and have a talk about how every little facet of our relationship doesn’t need to be discussed with major monthly magazines. The “Fault in Our Stars” is voluntarily opening up again about his reignited romance with Violette Komyshan, this time to Details. “I was doing OK,” he says of their five-months breakup, “but I knew something was missing, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s love.'”

In related news, I think Elgort should maybe stop doing interviews, because the sheen is quickly wearing off his public image. What started a year or two ago as a refreshingly refined and “aw shucks” antidote to the usual parade of bratty young stars is morphing into some sort of pretentious platitude-spouting jerk-face. Take quotes like this one, for instance — from the same Details interview — about his career goals: “I want to buy a house now, so I can have my place and not worry about money. Then I can do plays. Do Broadway, make whatever movie I want and not feel like, ‘Well, I have to pay a mortgage and take this job and that job.’ The minute you start thinking, ‘I don’t want to do that, but it’ll make me money,’ is when you start f–king yourself. I don’t want money to ever drive my career. I want my career to be driven by what I want to do in art.” Oh, Ansel.
