An anti-fracking group is organizing a Sandy anniversary candlelight march to take place on Wall Street Tuesday evening.
The group, Sane Energy Project, has been fighting the Spectra pipeline that would bring shale gas, produced by fracking, from Pennsylvania to Manhattan’s lower west side.
The march is set to kick off about 6 p.m. at the east end of Wall Street. The host of the WBAI environmentalist radio show “Eco-logic,” Ken Gale, will talk about his experience being trapped in the WBAI building on Wall Street overnight during Sandy as the river’s water surged up the street.
The group will lead a candlelight march up Wall Street to the federal building, where Peter Rugh, leader of the eco-socialist group System Change not Climate Change, will speak. Rugh plans to connect Sandy, climate change and Wall Street.
The Spectra pipeline is scheduled to become operational this Friday, Nov. 1.
