Apartment fire being probed

The cause of a late night fire that left a woman in her 60s with life-threatening burns to over 50 per cent of her body is now under investigation.

A fire broke out in a 10th floor apartment at 330 Queen Elizabeth Driveway just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, said Ottawa fire platoon Chief Lyle Fraser.

Forty firefighters with 16 apparatus were on scene.

The fire, which started in the living room, was knocked down in half an hour, Fraser said.

“Upon entering the unit, firefighters discovered one patient who suffered burns,” he said.

Paramedics said the victim was transported to the Ottawa hospital burn unit. Paramedics treated two other women, also in their 60s, at the scene. One was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters estimate the damage to the structure and contents to be $300,000.
