Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs said more than 450,000 iPad tablet computers have been sold in less than a week as he unveiled new software designed to make the iPhone more appealing to mobile users and developers.
The new software includes support for multitasking and advertising, Jobs said during a presentation Thursday at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. The software will ship this summer.
The new program escalates Apple’s rivalry with Google Inc. for mobile users and developers at a time when demand for smartphones outpaces that for computers.
