Are you a cut above the competition?

Casting directors for Canada’s Top Chef — the spin-off of the Food Network’s popular American show — will be in Vancouver this weekend, accepting applications from hopeful contestants.

Jennifer Pratt and Cliff Dempster will be at the eighth annual EAT! Vancouver Food + Cooking Festival at the Vancouver Convention Centre from Friday to Sunday.

Previously, the annual festival was held at B.C. Place, which is undergoing renovations to replace its roof.

“We are on the lookout for the best, brightest and most passionate chefs in the Vancouver area,” said Pratt.

“Being on this show is an amazing opportunity for local culinary talent to not only win … $100,000 but also to showcase their cooking chops.”

Head judge, Toronto-based celebrity chef Mark McEwan, said the show is all about professionalism rather than drama.

“I think that’s why it’s really popular in Canada,” he said. “We’re looking for people with personality and a sense of showmanship, and first and foremost someone who can really boogie at the stove.”

The series premieres in spring 2011 on Food Network Canada.

Applications are being accepted until June 14, but applications can be delivered in-person at EAT! this weekend.

The event — Canada’s largest consumer food and cooking festival — features celebrity chefs, local restaurants, wineries, food manufacturers, cookbook authors, retailers and others from the culinary world.
