Argos set to announce hiring of Titans’ Bart Andrus

A 50-year-old American with no CFL experience is the new head coach of the Toronto Argonauts, sources told Metro Thursday.

The sources said the Argos will announce Friday morning that they’ve hired Bart Andrus, who spent the past season as an offensive assistant coach with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

They’re hoping Andrus can follow in the footsteps of Montreal head coach Marc Trestman, who was hired by the Alouettes before last season despite having no CFL experience. Trestman wound up coaching the Als to the Grey Cup game.

Andrus is the Argos’ second choice. Their first choice, Toronto native Mike Benevides, stunned the Argos by rejecting their offer recently and choosing to stay with the B.C. Lions as their defensive co-ordinator.
