An Arlington woman is accused of faking terminal brain cancer and swindlinga senior citizen out of more than $100,000.

Anisa Llega, 24, started working as a house keeper for an 84-year-old widower who was a frequent customer at a local restaurant where Llega worked as a waitress, police said.

During that time, Llega allegedly fostered a relationship with the man and began ripping him off. Police said she cooked up a tale about a terminal brain tumor. The man said he gave her $30,000 for surgery.

Llega reportedly received more money to pay auto payments, school loans and other bills.

“This is a particularly sad situation in which the victim has no family and whose kindness and generosity has been thoroughly taken advantage of,” Arlington Police Chief Fredrick Ryan said.

Officials determined that during the time Llega claimed to be having surgery, she was actually in Miami on vacation. Police believe that she conned more than $100,000 from the man. Police found and froze several bank accounts in her name.

An acquaintance of the victim tipped off the Arlington Police to the ongoing scam.

She was arrested onWednesday and was arraigned on Thursday and is being heldon $100,000 bail.
