The Yankees had been trending toward the way of a low budget, young, up-and-coming bunch – but they haven’t entirely bucked their old ways. Brian Cashman brought back closer Aroldis Chapman Wednesday night on a whopping five year, $86 million deal. It is the largest contract ever for a reliever.

“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance,” Chapman told ESPN. “I love the organization, they welcomed me back with open arms, and that’s why I decided to go back.”

Having been dealt to the Cubs at the 2016 MLB trade deadline, Chapman wasn’t even gone six months. He recorded 36 saves and had a 1.55 ERA this past season.
