Police are investigating an incident that happened in Brownsville, Brooklyn last night where bullets shattered the back window of an Assemblyman’s car while he was driving through the neighborhood.
New York state Democratic Assemblyman William Boyland was driving with his 7-year-old son in the car at about 6 p.m. yesterday when three bullets struck his SUV. Neither he nor his son were injured in the shooting. One of the bullets lodged in the front seat.
Right now, police do not think the lawmaker was the intended target, but the investigation is continuing. And Boyland is a controversial figure.
The four-term assemblyman, who represents the 55th Assembly District, was indicted in March for bribery and corruption charges. He is accused of taking over $170,000 from a health care group in return for his political influence, a charge he denies.
Even more recently, Boyland enraged some Brownsville residents when he drove past a prayer vigil for a 13-year-old girl who was saved several other children from the path on an oncoming car but was herself killed. Boyland honked his horn and waved at those attending, but never bothered to get out of the car.
