Leave it to the Neanderthals in baseball to screw up this live streaming deal as it will be wholly difficult to stream the Red Sox versus Astros ALDS Game 1 unless you have a cable subscription. The Red Sox – Astros game will be broadcast live on MLB TV Thursday so if you have basic cable and MLB TV you’re in luck. Cord cutters could run into trouble with MLB blackout rules (even though the game is only available on MLB TV). For instance, if you have DirecTV Now and you wanted to watch a Red Sox game on MLB TV during the season it was blacked out – even though DirecTV Now doesn’t even offer NESN yet.
Viewers in the Boston area with DirecTV Now should be able to see the live broadcast of Game 1 of the Red Sox – Astros series on MLB TV because of its exclusivity. But this is entirely new territory as DirecTV Now wasn’t even around during the last baseball playoffs.
Here are some live stream and live streaming back-up options if you run into trouble on Thursday.
Facebook Live stream and YouTube Live stream will be updated closer to game time. If stream cuts out during the game, be sure to check the comments sections in Facebook Live and YouTube Live as users will typically provide free streaming links.
