Fourth-seeded Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev on Sunday to win the Hamburg European Open, successfully defending his title.
Basilashvili, the fourth seed, won 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to become the second player since Roger Federer to win back-to-back in Hamburg.
“Just to see my name next to (Roger) means a lot to me,” said Basilashvili. “I played my best tennis here, and I will come back next year, for sure.”
The Georgian won 81 percent of his first-serve points, overcoming six double faults to outduel Rublev.
J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad
Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas defeated Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in straight sets to claim his second ATP Tour title and end the amazing run of the German, who came into the tourney ranked 455th in the world.
Ramos-Vinolas won the rain-delayed match between unseeded players, 6-3, 6-2. He converted four of seven break points while staving off four of five against him.
Stebe remains winless on tour since September 2017.
BB&T Atlanta Open
Third-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur defeated second-seeded American Taylor Fritz in straight sets to become the youngest champ in the history of the tournament.
The 20-year-old lost just 10 points on serve — only two of 31 on his first serve — to win his second ATP Tour title, 6-3, 7-6 (2).
De Minaur never faced a break point in his run to the title, becoming just the third player to do so since 1991.
