ATP roundup: Lorenzo Sonego falls at Murray River Open

Wild card Jason Kubler defeated ninth-seeded Lorenzo Sonego on Monday on the opening day of the Murray River Open in Melbourne, one of two warm-up tournaments in action ahead of the Australian Open.

Kubler, who is from Australia, defeated the Italian 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. No. 11 Marin Cilic of Croatia also fell in his opener to Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8).

No. 10 Adrian Mannarino of France, No. 12 Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain, No. 15 Tommy Paul and No. 16 Marton Fucsovics of Hungary were all winners in their openers. No. 14 Richard Gasquet of France lost in straight sets to Mackenzie McDonald.

Other winners: Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania, Alex Bolt and Harry Bourchier of Australia, Federico Coria of Argentia, Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, Corentin Moutet of France and Pedro Sousa of Portugal

Great Ocean Road Open

No. 12 Laslo Djere of Serbia lost in the first round of the Great Ocean Road Open in Melbourne, falling to Kamil Majchrzak of Poland 6-3, 6-4.

No. 16 Feliciano Lopez of Spain also dropped his match to South African Kevin Anderson, 6-4, 7-5. No. 13 Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia defeated Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan in straight sets.

Other winners: Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea, Christopher O’Connell, Max Purcell and Aleksander Vukic of Australia and Stefano Travaglia of Italy.
