Pornography addiction is a hurdle for many adults, but for one Australian woman who goes only by Rebecca, the nightmare began when she was just 8-years-old.
Rebecca, now 19, shared her troubling experience in a new documentary called “Australians on Porn” which explores the painful and dark subject of porn addiction.
RELATED:Men who watch too muchpornenjoy sex less: study Rebecca explained that her interest in porn was sparked by a deep and intense feeling that she “just wanted to find out more about that.” Her exploration of this feeling led her first to softcore “vanilla” porn and eventually to more hard core productions. “When I first started watching porn, I would just watch kind of I guess ‘normal’ or ‘vanilla’ porn, just heterosexual, just run of the mill….As I got older it started becoming more violent, more aggressive and demeaning, I guess. I would watch it kind of multiple times a day and I felt like I couldn’t stop.” “I definitely lost control of my sexuality watching the really violent porn and things like bestiality.” Rebecca explained to the ABC. She explained that the things she saw in hardcore porn videos affected how she was intimate with men in real life. “I would bring up the fact that I wanted to try the things I had seen in pornography like choking, and rough sex —violent stuff like that,” Rebecca confesses in the documentary. “My partners were always more than willing to do that for me.” Rebecca was even sexually assaulted several times by different partners. According to Rebecca though, porn had taught her to think the abuse was acceptable.
According to the Daily Mail, Rebecca is still seeking help for her addiction in hopes of having a normal life.
“I just would like to have a respectful, equal relationship,” Rebecca told the ABC. “A life where I feel good about myself and my sexuality and I can engage in sex in a really healthy respectful way.”
