Terrible news out of Russia today: A plane carrying the Lokomotiv KHL hockey team from Yaroslavl crashed in the western part of the country, killing at least 43 of the 45 aboard.
The Yak-42 plane crashed just after leaving the Yaroslavl airport. It was bound for a game in Minsk, Belarus.
Lokomotiv finished third in the KHL last season. It’s coached by NHL veteran Brad McCrimmon, and features a number of other players with ties to the American league.
It’s still unclear which players and coaches were on the plane.
