B.C. asks group to pay $9K for park info

Members of an environmental group are roaring mad after receiving a letter from the B.C. government asking for $9,000 to process a Freedom of Information request.

The Wilderness Committee submitted the request last month in an attempt to quantify reports of park rangers being unable to adequately patrol their areas due to funding shortages.

The group accused the government of trying delay the release of information that may damage B.C. Park’s 100th anniversary next year.

“We won’t take this lying down,” said Gwen Barlee, a member of the group. “We intend to get this information and distribute it widely.”
